There are many
people of all ages having their dinner with a lot of stalls around. These
stalls mostly have local food.
People relaxing out near the streets, filled
with bright lights and the wonderful view of the beach on the other side.
A group of local people and tourists roaming around the
streets. Some of the tourists are found taking pictures of the area.
A local 'taxi bicycle' driver, passing through a flower market along the road searching for people around the area for transport service.
Some part of Georgetown is referred to as Chinatown where there are a lot of temples found in most areas and a lot of Chinese people too. The picture above shows people resting under the gazebo at the temple's garden.
The picture above shows different ages of Chinese people performing their prayers in a temple.
Traditional Chinese clothing called Cheongsam are also mostly found in markets around Penang that sells clothes.

The state of Penang is famous for it’s local cuisine. A lot of local people who have the ability to cook delicious local food, open up small businesses for them to sell they’re cooking, opening up food stalls. A lot of food such as the char kuey teow originates from Penang and gives the state a high reputation for selling delicious local food.
The char kuey teow is a famous noodle dish that has a high reputation in & outside Penang. The char kuew teow consists of flat rice noodles stir fried with oil & seasoning for sweetness.
The beef ball noodle is a dish with beef balls that is mixed with wanton noodles. The picture shows it as a noodle soup while there is also a dry dish.
Another original meal served in Penang is the Penang laksa. This tasty dish serves thick rice noodles with a mix of different garnishment. What gives it a distinctive fragrance is the fish & assam-based broth.
Grilled stingray is a delicacy sold in food stalls. This seafood dish is tendered & seasoned to give it a smoky grilled flavour
Ais Kacang is a famous dessert in Penang. Similar to cendol, it is shaved ice mixed with milk & syrup. On top of the mountain of ice are kidney beans, green jelly, grass jelly & sometimes ice cream.
For a muslim dish, Indians who reside next to the mosque of Georgetown, serve Biryani rice which is a rice dish made with spices along with chicken & egg as side-dishes
During our trip to Penang, there are many activities that can be found in Penang.
One of them, is selling food or drinks at the back of their lorry and bikes. For example, selling Crispy Peanut Cake (Ban Chang Kuih ,曼煎糕,), and fresh sugarcane juice.
Besides that, nearby the famous Kek Lok Si Temple, there are famous hawker shops selling the most famous asam laksa in penang.
After that, we went up to the temple. While on our way up, there were a lot of shops selling Chinese merchandise like the bottle gourd (Hulu,葫芦) , teapots, jewelries, and Chinese traditional costumes like Cheongsam and Samfu.
When we reached, the first thing that caught our eyes is the rainbow tree, where chinese people hang their wishing ribbon on it.
The picture above shows two people worshipping to their deity in front of the altar of the temple.
At night, we went to Gurney Drive to see how Penangites nightlife is. There were lots of lots of hawker shops. It was crowded with people from different background.
Opposite the hawker stalls, a lot of people were chilling and relaxing by the seafront promenade. Besides, some were taking pictures, some were just jogging around.
“Boy on a Bike” Mural, Ah Quee Street, George Town, Penang.
On certain old walls of Penang’s Georgetown, you can see amazing artworks. They are funny, fascinating, and very much open to everyone’s interpretations.
George Town Steel Rod Sculptures is a collection of caricatures placed on historic streets of George Town which attracts tourist’s attention and gives them some information as well.
The concept presented by Sculpture at Work is to relate the history and characteristic of selected streets in George Town using steel rod caricatures of local cartoonists.
The main staircase incorporates the use of both local and imported materials in its construction, handrail with balusters of cast iron, from Glasgow, Scotland. A distinct feature of European influence includes the hollowed out design of fleur-de-lis on the decorative ironwork.
Richly decorated with European-styled teak furniture, Victorian ceramic figures and glass epergnes, affluent Baba households even have a separate western-styled dining room meant for entertaining peers and European guests. The dinner service includes porcelain, glass and silverware, all imported from Europe.
In Straits Eclectic and Chinese homes, the front hall or parlour is typically separated from the rest of the house by an ornately carved wooden screen. Directly facing the main door, this timber divider acts as a ‘spirit wall’ to prevent evil spirits from entering by obstructing their straight paths.
At the highest level there is a 36.5 meter-high bronze statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy; in the future 16 ornately decorated bronze columns supporting a roof over the statue, as well 1000 two-meter high statues of the goddess are planned to be built.
This pagoda combines a Chinese octagonal base with a middle tier of Thai design, and a Burmese crown, reflecting the temple's embrace of both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism known as the Pagoda of 10,000 Buddha's.
